Spain's Cadena Ser radio and newspaper AS are reporting on Saturday that Manchester United are working to sign Eric Bailly from Villarreal. The 22 year old central defender has had an impressive season in La Liga, and has therefore been linked with interest from other clubs too.
However, it's the fee which may be intriguing. AS say Bailly's buyout clause is €40m but they state Manchester United will not pay the clause. Instead they've agreed a fee made up of various facets which will work out to be around €40m, perhaps so it sounds better from the Villarreal perspective.
AS say Bailly is now negotiating his own personal terms with Manchester United, so of course the next thing would be to have a medical... and then the deal is done. AS seem pretty certain in what they're claiming and state the Ivory Coast international is 'on the verge' of moving to Manchester United.
AS can be good, and AS can be bad, and the same goes for Cadena Ser, it remains to be seen what's happening here.
