Luis Suarez goes nuts. Again.
Uruguay’s Copa America is over. After just two games.
West Brom striker Salomon Rondon did the damage for Venezuela with the only goal in a 1-0 win in Philadelphia.
A side with an incredible Copa America record, especially for such a small country, Uruguay lost both games in Group C having been defeated by Mexico in their opener.
Luis Suarez thought he could play
Barcelona striker Luis Suarez was unable to play for Uruguay in the opener against Mexico due to an injury picked up in the Copa del Rey final last month.
Suarez was though under the impression that he would be able to appear for Uruguay as they chased an equaliser against Venezuela.
Edinson Cavani missed a couple of very presentable chances and still hasn’t scored in a Copa America, confirming his reputation as a striker that has failed to find a clinical touch since leaving Napoli for PSG.
Luis Suarez warms up
With around fifteen minutes to go, Luis Suarez started warming up in a bid to help his Uruguay team mates despite not being fully fit.
Suarez prepared himself to come on but was told by Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez and the coaching staff that he could not enter the field as he was listed as an injured player.
Cue the Suarez rage that has become so familiar during his time with the national team and at Ajax and Liverpool. Generally, this is not he Luis Suarez we have seen at Barcelona.
After the game, Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez confirmed that Suarez was simply not fit to play in the match.
